- Indy Reads serves adults 18 years of age and older in Central Indiana who read at or below the sixth grade level, or who are learning English as a new language.
- The Greater Indianapolis Literacy League, DBA "Indy Reads" is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Indy Reads was founded in 1984 as the Greater Indianapolis Literacy League (GILL) by several librarians and a group of community activists. The name was changed in 1998 to Indy Reads.
- Indy Reads is an independent, non-profit organization. We receive no direct government funding. Finanical support is through individual donors, corporate contributions, and grants.
- Indy Reads has been evaluated by the BBB Wise Giving Alliance in relation to the 20 BBB Standards for Charitable Accountability, and meets all BBB standards.
- Indy Reads participates in GuideStar, the on-line standard for nonprofit accountability. Visit GuideStar to see our listing.
- Indy Reads is accredited by ProLiteracy Worldwide, the oldest and largest nongovernmental literacy organization in the world. It achieves its mission, championing the life-changing benefits of literacy for adults and their families, by sponsoring educational programs that help adults and their families acquire the literacy practices and skills they need to function more effectively in their daily lives.

- Board of Directors : Indy Reads is governed by an all volunteer Board of Directors. Board meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month. To attend a board meeting, please call to verify date, time and location.
